Starting out as springs just west of West Bend from water pressure in the hills of the Sub-Continental Divide, Cedar Creek flows through Big Cedar and Little Cedar Lakes, then East through Washington and Ozaukee County before entering Cedarburg. Historically, the creek was put to use in Cedarburg at the Cedar Creek Settlement. Currently this part of Cedarburg is the height of culture, entertainment and shopping, anchoring a business district that draws tens of thousands of visitors per year.
Cedar Creek Settlement is the home to the Cedar Creek Winery, which is housed in an 1864 grist mill building. Updated and wonderful to visit, the winery is a great place to take a tour, sample wine and purchase unique wines for yourself or for gifts.
Speaking of unique items for purchase and gifts, 25 unique shops are in the settlement. This is not the mall experience that many strive to avoid, but unique shops owned by local proprietors. Names such as Cedar Creek Trading Post, Alpine Gift Haus, The Jewelry Works and Amish Craftsmen Guild II are just a few found on the fronts of these establishments. Art studios include Bridge Road Gallery and Cedar Creek Pottery where you can see the work of local artisans.
Cedar Creek Settlement is also home to three restaurants and always has seasonal decorations. The Cedar Creek Settlement is a short drive from Hidden Serenity Bed and Breakfast and because the shops and galleries are small and locally operated, they offer not only the variety that only small shops can display, but also change frequently enough that return visits are always greeted with something new to explore.
Many of the wonderful guest we have at our luxury bed and breakfast come to the area with the intent on visiting Cedarburg while in the area. It is a short drive through the country. We are happy to give directions to the Cedar Creek Settlement and they also maintain a great website at www.cedarcreeksettlement.com. Hidden Serenity is a great place to hang your hat while visiting, shopping and enjoying Cedarburg.
