Ride the Eisenbahn State Trail This Summer

Bed and Breakfast Couple riding bikes on Wisconsin bike trails like the Eisenbahn State Trail near our Wisconsin

Biking in Wisconsin is an annual tradition for most, partly thanks to the vast network of Wisconsin bike trails you’ll find throughout the state. One of our favorites that just so happens to be close to our Bed and Breakfast in Wisconsin is the Eisenbahn State Trail. Riding the Eisenbahn State Trail is a fantastic way to get out and experience the beauty of this part of the state and have a fun adventure with your sweetheart while you’re at it.

Whether you’ve made it a goal to ride all the great Wisconsin bike trails this state has to offer, or you’ve never had the pleasure of riding the state’s vast network of trails, you’re in for a treat with trails like the Eisenbahn State Trail. Wisconsin is home to the first Rails to Trails conservation effort, a route now known as the Elroy-Sparta State Trail. Few other states have created such a robust network of bike trails, and we’re thrilled one is located so close by.

The Eisenbahn State Trail is only one of the great biking opportunities near our Bed and Breakfast in Wisconsin. There are also bike parks like the Little Switzerland Bike Park and scenic rides through the Kettle Moraine State Forest. Regardless of where your two-wheeled adventures take you this year, we know you’ll have a fantastic time exploring the unparalleled beauty of Wisconsin.

The only thing that can make this adventure better is spending a few days with us at our top-rated Bed and Breakfast in Wisconsin. We offer our guests uncompromising indulgence throughout your getaway, from sumptuous guest rooms to a complimentary spa experience designed to take your couple’s getaway to the next level. If you’re ready for a great getaway, it’s time to book your room at our Bed and Breakfast in Wisconsin.

Big Adventure on the Eisenbahn State Trail in Wisconsin

Thanks to the Rails to Trails Conservancy Program, there are plenty of great Wisconsin bike trails to choose from, even in our part of the state. The ultimate goal of this organization is to have a complete network of bike trails that traverses the entirety of the United States. That will be an excellent means of travel, but in the meantime, we’re thrilled to have segments of these trails nearby, including the Eisenbahn State Trail.

The Eisenbahn State Trail is a wonderful 25-mile trail operated by Fond du Lac County and is fondly known as the Route of the Badger. The route connects the cities of West Bend, where our Bed and Breakfast in Wisconsin is located, and nearby Eden.

Today’s bike route follows the original path of a Milwaukee and Superior Railroad branch built in the 1850s and later became part of the Fox River Valley Railroad through 1999. The Eisenbahn State Trail opened to cyclists in 2006 and is composed mainly of asphalt and crushed stone.

As you travel down the Eisenbahn State Trail, you’ll find yourself on a slightly elevated ridge which allows for great views of the rural farmland surrounding you. The trail is mostly exposed to the sun, with only sparse trees providing occasional shade.

There are plenty of small communities along the route for refreshments as needed, and there’s even a segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail that crosses paths with the Eisenbahn State Trail if you feel like a side adventure. There’s also a side trail near A side trail, less than a mile from Barton Park, which leads to Lac Lawrann Conservancy, which is an excellent spot for bird and wildlife viewing.

Apart from being a great trail to ride, the Eisenbahn State Trail also commemorates this area’s German heritage, with the name of the trail translating to “iron road,” referring, of course, to the rails that once dominated this route.

More Biking at the Little Switzerland Bike Park

As we mentioned earlier, the Eisenbahn Trail is only of several fantastic Wisconsin bike trails in the area. Guests staying with us at our Bed and Breakfast in Wisconsin are also welcome to rent our ebikes and set out for an adventure in downtown West Bend or the scenic Kettle Moraine State Forest. Beyond that, though, there’s another great biking park, which is suitable for mountain bikers!

In the winter, Little Switzerland operates as a great local ski hill, but as the snow melts and gives way to spring, summer, and fall, the Little Switzerland Bike Park takes this area’s trails in a new direction. The Little Switzerland Bike Park is a true mountain biking paradise for local riders with lift-serviced trails. Not only that but it’s rated one of the best mountain biking parks in the Midwest.

The Little Switzerland Bike Park may not have the steepest terrain in the Midwest, but what it lacks in elevation, it makes up for in creative and challenging trails fit for everyone from beginnings to advanced mountain bikers. Either way, you’ll likely be having so much fun here that you won’t stop to think about any alternatives. The bike park contrasts the relatively flat nature of most Wisconsin bike trails, including the Eisenbahn State Trail.

The fact that it’s only 25 minutes from our Bed and Breakfast in Wisconsin also makes it an appealing destination for those looking for a little adrenaline-packed adventure followed by a little romantic one-on-one time with their sweetheart. If you want to enjoy a little time on bikes this year, now’s the time to book your getaway to our Bed and Breakfast in Wisconsin.
